Panther Challenge is a school wide field day and campus fundraiser for Jose M. Lopez Middle School, and competition between the grade levels. Students will participate in several exciting physical and academic competitions throughout the event to assist their grade level in winning the Challenge and Panther Cup.
Each grade level rotated through a series of challenges, from a water bottle toss, bingo, to kickball and cup stacking. More than 100 parent volunteers assisted staff and teachers in overseeing each challenge and tallying up the points for each grade. The winning grade will be treated to a Kona Ice party!

“Fundraising is an important piece of the funding puzzle for schools like Lopez. We receive money from the state according to the number of students, but if we wish to purchase anything above that amount, we have to raise the money ourselves. The Panther Challenge is a great way to do that, while also building teamwork and cohesiveness across the campus.” ~Eric Wernli (Principal LMS) |
“Lopez students love competing, while being afforded choice when it comes to game selection. Our 6th grade class is always extremely excited to show their skills and school spirit. Their momentum pushes the 7th and 8th grade to engage, and in turn everyone has an absolute blast. Showing off their skills during the Panther Challenge allows for social emotional learning to take place, as they cheer each other on, and encourage their peers to participate.” -Mrs. Striffler (Lopez Teacher) |
